The museum is a complex that includes St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, and the chapel-museum at the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood. The museum collection includes monumental and easel paintings, graphics, sculptures, mosaics, decorative and applied art, and rare books. The museum conducts diverse scientific research as well as exhibition, educational, and socio-cultural activities.

Russian Ethnographic Museum (4/1, Ulitsa Inzhenernaya)

The museum’s exposition introduces visitors to the traditional ethnography of the East Slavic peoples, Moldovans, the peoples of the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Volga region, the Northwest, Siberia, and the Far East, and traces the preservation and development of national traditions in modern folk art.
The Russian Ethnographic Museum has an extensive collection of original photographs, as well as a unique library and scientific archive.

The sightseeing tour of the Museum of Political History of Russia will introduce you to the main exhibitions and most striking exhibits of the museum’s collection.
You will have a chance to see the architecture of the mansions of ballerina Mathilde Kschessinska and St. Petersburg entrepreneur Vasily Brant, which were built in the early 20th century, see the interiors, and find out the fates of the owners.
You will learn about Kschessinska’s life story and can visit the White Hall where she received guests. The historical interiors will immerse you in the atmosphere of the bygone Silver Age.
The tour itinerary then passes through Vladimir Lenin’s workroom and the office of the secretariat of the Bolshevik Party, since the museum building was at the epicentre of turbulent political events in 1917.

The Suvorov State Memorial Museum (43, Kirochnaya Ulitsa)

The Suvorov State Memorial Museum is dedicated to the memory of Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov (1730–1800). It was founded in St. Petersburg in 1900, on the centenary of the great commander’s death and ceremoniously opened four years later, on 13 (26) November 1904, on the 175th anniversary of Suvorov’s birth. The opening of the museum became possible as a result of donations from the military and civilian communities, as well as with the active participation of Emperor Nicholas II. The bulk of the collection consists of documents, artifacts from Suvorov’s campaigns, his personal belongings, as well as rare photographs and works of art.

The museum features the famous portrait of the poet by Vasily Tropinin, as well as images of Pushkin and his contemporaries. Among the memorial items on display are Pushkin’s writing desk from his Boldino home, Ivan Krylov’s armchair, Mikhail Kutuzov’s campaign bench, and a delicate miniature of the Nashchokin House, a magical tribute to the past and to meticulous craftsmanship. Visitors will also see first editions of Pushkin’s works, including Ruslan and Lyudmila and chapters from Eugene Onegin, along with facsimile manuscripts printed on archival paper.

The State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg is one of the largest historical museums in Russia. The museum’s collection contains more than 1.3 million exhibits that document the history of the city on the Neva from its foundation to the present day. The museum is based at the Peter and Paul Fortress and also has several branches: the Rumyantsev Mansion on the English Embankment, the Alexander Blok Apartment Museum, the Sergey Kirov Museum, the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad Museum on Victory Square, the Printing Museum, the Museum of St. Petersburg Avant-Garde (Matyushin House), and the Oreshek Fortress.

The Manege Central Exhibition Hall currently has a historical and documentary project dedicated to the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition ‘Great Country – Great Victory. 1941–1945’ is dedicated to the feats of home front workers and tells about the heroic work of millions of people whose efforts and sacrifices are inseparable from the achievements of the army. The project explores the challenges that the Soviet Union faced during the war, shows what life was like during the hardships of wartime, and documents the significant contribution that home front workers made to the victory.

The outing will include a visit to the Rosphoto State Museum and the ‘Inside an Antique Camera’ exhibition on permanent display there.
The building housing the museum is a vivid example of Northern Art Nouveau, decorated with majolica based on the work of Nicholas Roerich. Decorative components of the interior design include a relief frieze celebrating the Russian North, colorful Tiffany stained-glass windows, and a wide range of ceramic stoves and tiled fireplaces from the early 20th century.
The ‘Inside an Antique Camera’ permanent exhibition is a fascinating introduction to the technical side of photography. It features early optical inventions, such as camera obscura, rare cameras from the museum’s collection, such as Kodak’s first roll-film hand camera, four-lens cameras, stereoscopes, large format cameras from the second half of the 19th century, and more. The centrepiece of the exhibition is an installation that allows viewers to go inside an antique camera and use modern digital technologies to create their own daguerreotype and albumen print portrait.
A participant badge (participants are asked to register ahead of time in their personal web office for one of a limited number of places) is needed to attend. The group will meet at the Rosphoto ticket office on the second floor of 35, Bolshaya Morskaya Ulitsa.
