REC and insurance market experts to discuss the current issues in insurance disputes at SPILF 2025

The finer points of regulation, the many participants in legal relations, and the peculiarities of the evidentiary process have traditionally placed insurance disputes, especially those arising in the course of entrepreneurial activities, among the most difficult to resolve. Transportation insurance and reinsurance (primarily sea and air), credit risks, and the settlement of disputes with foreign counterparties have gained new urgency under sanctions.
What is the outlook for the continued development of reinsurance and how have reinsurance disputes hitherto been resolved? How do sanctions and counter-sanctions affect the terms and conditions of Russian insurance contracts and impact approaches to resolving conflicts between parties? What developments are needed to the legal framework to expand insurance business with friendly jurisdictions?
Experts will discuss these and other issues at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF 2025) as part of the session ‘Insurance and Reinsurance Disputes. Where to Litigate and How to Settle Non-Commercial Disputes’, organized by the Russian Export Centre Group (part of VEB.RF Group) in conjunction with the All-Russian Union of Insurers.
Session participants will have a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about cases covered in the legal media as experts look at case studies, formulate recommendations for dispute resolution, and acquaint the audience with existing legal tools.
The session will be moderated by Yury Kolesnikov, Doctor of Law, Chairman of the Arbitration Centre of the RSPP Special Council for Insurance Disputes.
Experts will include: President of the All-Russian Union of Insurers Evgeny Ufimtsev, President of the Russian National Reinsurance Company Natalia Karpova, Judge of the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region and Deputy Chair of the Council of Judges of St. Petersburg Natalya Korchagina, Managing Partner of Sokolov, Maslov & Partners Iftikhar Pirov, Director of Aeroflot Legal Department Anna Khomyakova, Deputy General Director of Ingosstrakh for Legal Affairs Anna Polina-Stashevskaya, and Managing Director for Legal Support of REC Administrative and Judicial Work Sergey Seliverstov.
The discussion will be of particular benefit to the legal departments of Russian and international companies using insurance as a risk management tool, insurance and reinsurance organizations, insurance brokers, professional insurance market participants, independent law and consulting companies, and the judicial, arbitration, and academic community.
